About Aarambh Mumbai
Helmed by Purva Naresh (a playwright and theatre producer), Gopal Dutt (actor and lyricist) and Naresh Saxena (a noted Hindi poet), Aarambh Mumbai is a theatre group that has, for the last five years, been continuously putting up productions that have gained national and international recognition. Aarambh’s productions has been invited to all the best theatre festivals in the country including META, Bharangam, Prithvi Theatre Festival, Centrestage Festival NCPA Mumbai, Adi Vidrohi Festival Bhopal and Bharat Bhavan. Their play, Ok Tata Bye Bye, was invited to the Royal Court London for a reading and was then produced at Curve Theatre, Leicester UK. In India, it premiered at Writers Bloc Festival at Prithvi Theatre. They also won the Laadli Media National Award in 2013, an initiative by the Laadli Group and UNFP on gender sensitisation.
Purva Naresh is an award winning playwright and a theatre producer. She has received the Laadli Media Award for Best Play on Gender Sensitisation in 2012 for Ok Tata Bye Bye, and was recently awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puruskar, also known as the National Award for Young Performing and Theatre Artists by the Central Academy for music dance and drama, the illustrious Sangeet Natak Akademi.
Purva was listed amongst India’s 50 powerful women by VERVE in 2013, and amongst the top under 40 stars of Mumbai in a survey by The Hindustan Times in 2014.
Purva brings a rich knowledge of Indian classical music, dance and film to her theatre writing. Her most recent commissioned work has been for Bake House Australia, a multilingual project, currently in development in Melbourne by Suzanne Miller. Purva was also a part of the International Chain Play writing experiment conducted by The Lark, New York. She is invited to The Curve Theatre in Leicester in 2016, for a two week workshop to develop a play to be produced by The Curve and Arts council UK, and directed by Suba Das.
Aarambh’s repertoire includes Aaj Rang Hai, Ok Tata Bye Bye, Preth, Tunni Ki Kahani and Umrao.
